Early morning astronomy

Up early to get to a breakfast meeting in Brussels, and it is clear enough to see no less than three bright planets - Mars in the west, glowing bright red at the feet of Gemini; Jupiter Saturn to the south, grazing Leo's belly; and Venus emerging in the morning twilight, perhaps in Virgo, can't be entirely sure from here. There are compensations for an early start.

Astronomy
Caught some of that too. Would want to live far from the light of civilization for a while, just to be able to admire the thousands of stars. Did that (admire -- not live) while I was a kid, probably the reason I started reading SF at fifteen (which is, I guess, late, but not much translations where available in those days).
At least we know what stars are -- consider stone-age men gazing at those wonders. What would they have made of such a sight? Is this where religion started? Probably. Would be fascinating if these most 'primitive' creatures would have left some sort of writing. Left us their thoughts. Not that they were anything like 'primitive', only fully adapted to their environment.

Heh, it's not like we're cheating or anything by living so far north that we routinely are dressed and out of the house before sunrise - and here it's as much as 10-11 days before the winter solstice!

Crazy(but liking the morning, light-show, too!)Soph

Could you tell they were Saturn and Venus by looking at them, or did you know in advance where they were likely to be?

Mars has been rocking my world over the last few days.

Venus yes. Saturn I mistook for Jupiter on first sight - I hadn't expected it to be so bright.
