Middle England

Once I have a faster connection I shall upload pictures of yesterday's Great Pilgrimage, which ended in a drive across flooded Oxfordshire; others have posted about it too who live here, but gosh, that was drastic, wasn't it!

On a social note, very good to see peake on Tuesday evening, and drasecretcampus on Thursday morning. I shall see a few of you this evening in Faringdon, I expect.

Mum was on the A40 yesterday afternoon, trying to get from London to Staffordshire... she got stuck for hours and it looked like routes north via Evesham and Moreton were underwater so she ended up camping out at a hotel north of Oxford for the night. She rang the Randolph, but they were rather meanly charging 245 quid for a single room...

We're still stuck in it. West Oxfordshire is almost entirely cut off from the city: no buses from Carterton or Brize Norton (both of which are under water, following the latters 120+mm of rain), Witney east cordoned off, the A40 gridlocked and Eynsham sliding into the river. The Truck Festival was called off, and we can't even reach the ersatz Truck in Oxford Brookes....

Anyone stuck near north Oxford, I can recommend the Arden Lodge between the two roundabouts on the Banbury and Woodstock Roads.
