The editor of The Wellsian posts a query in response to an old book review of mine. Anyone interested in following this up? (Thinking of slovobooks and sammywol in particular, but others may be intrigued too.)

And on a completely different topic, Helm's Deep as you've never seen it before. (Hat-tip xnamkrad.)

*squee* Tootsie pop catapults!

(But, man, I have definitely left behind my childhood - the sight of that much sugar is ever-so-slightly stomach turning!)

Sometime I must natter at you about the wedding church subtlety done for an SCA wedding, and the lovely picture I would have taken after it was semi-demolished.

There were loads of books translated into Irish at one stage, presumably to encourage people to read the language. I haven't seen any of them in absolutely years, but I can remember seeing Árda Wuthering in a secondhand shop maybe twenty years ago. I've a feeling they were all published by An Gúm, the government publishing agency. As it happens, I have a copy of their catalogue of all their publications from 1922 onwards, as part of my glacially moving investigations into the works of Cathal Ó Sándair. I'll go look...

Of course, a list of SFnal (or related) book that were banned in Ireland might be an interesting appendix to your 'SF in Ireland' section.
