The bedtime routine

B has taken to removing the duvet from our bed, swaddling herself in it, and falling asleep in front of the front door. She can't tell us what the attraction is; perhaps she likes the cool air coming in through the doorframe. Anyway, normally it is easy enough to persuade her to go upstairs to her room when we want to reclaim the duvet for our own use. But this evening I realised another potential pitfall - if she's already lying in front of the door when I get back from work, it is very difficult for me to open it and gain access to my own home...

I can relate...
Our two year old, Aidan, has become very attached to his crib-sized duvet. He takes it everywhere with him including out into the back garden. It gets filthy and ends up in the wash basket but he refuses to go asleep without it. So he stays up late till it's washed and dried. Then the next morning at dawn (or so it seems), he slips past the crack security team into the garden so the cycle can begin once again.

You could always get a duplicate, so as at least to rotate between the clean one and the dirty one? Though he is probably smart enough to tell the difference...

Re: I can relate...
M has a teddy bear that he adores, and because he likes it so much we got a second, identical, one. When he was smaller he never questioned the fact that sometimes 'washing' would be almost instantaneous :-). Now we normally let him see the bear getting washes now and again and sometimes we swap them.
Of course he is not very focused on him environment so this might not work with a calmer more attentive kid :-).

Oh, the bears are really nice and you can register them so they will keep a stock of 'replacement' bears for two years after that model stops production. If we ever are so lucky as to have #2 it would be at the top of the gift-list.
