Delightful coincidence

We're watching "I CLAVDIVS" on DVD at the moment, and have got up to episode 4. Part of the series' immense charm is spotting actors you know from later roles at the 1976 stage of their career. This evening, I was struck by the lovely Livilla who seemed strangely familiar. And lo, come the closing credits, it turns out that she was played by Patricia Quinn, who of course lives forever as Magenta in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, filmed the previous year.

By weird coincidence, another one of the stars of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Susan Sarandon, played the same character in a 1985 TV series called A.D.. Though I'd be interested to know exactly how they fit the character into a dramatisation of the Acts of the Apostles...

Yes, I remember the shock of seeing an evil Patrick Stewart with curly hair.

Hehe! Actually, that kind of reminds me of the inverse ... when I saw David Suchet as Salieri at the Old Vic - I kept thinking to myself, "What the hell is Poirot doing in a wig?" ;-)

Actually, the disbelief was quickly suspended - Suchet is a damn fine actor.

I saw bits of A.D., and it didn't just do the Apostles, but paralleled that with the Julio-Claudians.

Most of the people commenting on this on IMDB appear to be demented.

We watched "I, Claudius" in my high school Latin class.... it's amazing! Have to love ancient Roman soap operas :)

Whoa! Even with all of the times I've seen Rocky, and all of the times I've seen I, Claudius, I never managed to make that connection.

The DVD box set has a rather delightful feature about the never-finished Charles Laughton I, Claudius with footage. Well worth a look.

Alas, we're on the cheap Dutch edition of the DVDs and I don't think it has much in the way of special features...
