Thank You!

Thanks to whoever it was in Northern Ireland that sent me three music CDs as a belated birthday present!

But I don't recognise your handwriting, and so I have absolutely no idea who you are!

(Am trying to think of friends who live in NI and would know enough Dutch to write "Do Not Bend / Niet Vouwen AUB" on the envelope, but am really drawing a blank...)

That's what I did (to check my schoolboy french) when sending a parcel to New Zealand (as opposed to old Zealand). It was a birthday present, so I didn't really want to describe the goods on the customs stick-on form as it would spoil the surprise. Reading the small print of the postal regulations (as one does), I discovered that you are apparently allowed to fill in customs forms in either English *or* French. So I described the goods as "un sac a main" with a value of "trente livres."
