Thanks - didn't know about a lot of those!

"the EU needs more integration just when many voters are turning against it"

Well, indeed. The article doesn't look at why voters are turning against the EU; this is apparently a taboo topic. Referendums are an inefficient and ineffective way of expressing how people feel they have been failed by the European project, but there aren't any better ways. I think we're due more Greece-style confrontations. How is Spain, I've not heard much since the Podemos election?

this is apparently a taboo topic

Don't be silly. The Economist has written more sensible articles about that than the rest of the UK press put together. This particular piece was about referendums in general, not the EU's failings.

the Podemos election

You meant the one where they came third, and then ruled out going into coalition with anyone?

As a recovering from a heart attack individual, this spoke very viscerally to me. In and amongst the battery of pills I must down each day is also the injunction to exercise regularly, specifically to walk as often as possible. Saaremaa has long understood the benefits of exercise and supports it with a network of walking and biking paths and ski trails. NOTHING improves my mood and sense of physical well being than an hour spent tramping through the trees.

Interesting article on the Underground. When I was in London in the fall I was actually impressed with the reliability and frequency of the service-but I didn't ride that often during rush hour.

I can't see standing on escalators ever working in Boston; people are rude here and would just push the standees out of the way.

I know the neuroscientist didn't write the headline, and that clickbait titles are a must but I thought everyone knew that about exercise.

It is an interesting article though.

That island looks interesting, but terrifying to climb.

And the video of the stick insect fighting its way out of the egg is breath-taking!
