Supreme Court upholds Arizona redistricting commission

Really not sure about this. On the one hand, definitely in favour of non-partisan independent districting. On the other hand, that's an incredibly creative (and dodgy) reading of the clause in the constitution that says it's the job of the legislature of each state.

I know the odds of a constitutional amendment generally is tiny, but the writing is fairly clear as to who/what is meant to be doing the job.

If I were a supreme court justice, I'd have read it more generously; the electoral commission is created by the legislature, which therefore has discharged its role.

Maybe, but I do think it's a push to include all the citizens in a referendum as part "the legislature" given that's a fairly well defined term.

Not that it actually matters much, but it is an example of those pesky activist judges ;-)
