The first Who from 1979 that I encountered:  I was glued to The Power of Kroll, despite its flaws, and the Armageddon Factor likewise. I was 10. But we were out of the country for the second half of the year so missed Season 17 entirely.

My favourite Who from 1979: There really is no contest, si there? I am not among the sizeable camp that sees City of Death as the best Doctor Who story ever, but I'll happily agree that it stands head and shoulders over anything else produced that year.

Moving swiftly on from: The rest of Season 17, especially the Mandrells. (And, "Lord Niiiimooon!!!")

So, what was your favourite of the above? What is the best bit? (And if you like, what is the worst bit?)

This is where I came in: The Armageddon Factor was the first Doctor Who I watched. The dilemma inherent in Astra being the final segment to the Key to Time really grabbed me—it's the only plot point I can remember from that year (though some images remain from the others, like the head of the Jaggaroth, and the excavation of Davros). So although looking back now as an adult, I can see that it's a just an overly padded runaround in corridors with an incoherent plot, it was much more than that in my eight-year-old imagination. So that was the best story of this year's Doctor Who for me.

My friend A lent me a tape with Destiny of the Daleks, City of Death, State of Decay and Warriors Gate which was the first time I'd seen any of those.

I have a particular loathing for the Movellans. I have no idea why robots would wear wigs.

Saw City of Death again recently and was underwhelmed. It's too touristy I'm afraid. Far too much time is spent basically saying "We're in Paris! No! We are! Look at us in Paris! We'll prove it! Again!"

I have never really felt the love for the City of Death, but then I have never rewatched it either.

Destiny of the Daleks - probably the most ponderous old Dr Who Dalek story (that I have seen).

The Armageddon Factor was for a long time my official favourite ever Dr Who story and I think it would probably hold up to a repeat viewing and would make for a good end to a re-watch of the entire Key to Time.
