The first Who from 1977 that I encountered: By this stage I was really hooked and avidly watched Leela's debut in the first episode of The Face of Evil on 1 January, and I think caught every other episode this year as it was first broadcast. I was 9.

My favourite Who from 1977: Those first four Leela stories are a really impressive arc. The Talons of Weng Chiang loses points for racism, but it and The Robots of Death are both fantastic. I'll also shout for Ian Marter's novelisation of The Ark in Space (and most of the other books evoke fond memories).

Moving swiftly on from: The giant prawn. And the cigarette factory.

So, what was your favourite of the above? What is the best bit? (And if you like, what is the worst bit?)

It may be playing up to racist stereotypes but I adore Talons. It's a tour-de-force pastiche of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Fu Manchu with added Leela! And it does have some of the best lines in Who, for example The Doctor attempting to explain why Leela is attempting to strangle a chinese attacker with his own pigtail to a shocked policeman She was found floating down the Amazon in a hat box... and I do have a soft spot for the 'Pantomime Rat'.

Talons is special for me, because it was being filmed when I got to visit the studio. I was 11, maybe just 12. Still have signed copies of the scripts of episodes 5 & 6 in safe keeping (titled Talons of Greel at the time of filming, and called Talons of Philip Hinchcliffe by the crew). These days I try not to think too hard about the yellowface.

Pretty good year generally, that.
