For a couple of the ones I've ticked, I haven't actually seen the whole film (e.g. because I came across it while channel-hopping), but I've seen a substantial enough proportion to feel I have a good familiarity with it.

I've done the same for Ben Hur, because I have seen all of it, just not necessarily in one sitting or in the right order.

I didn't click on anything I haven't seen all the way through. There's several on the list that I've seen pieces of but not all of.

This. I'm amazed at how low some of these scores are, really -- I mean, how is it possible never to have seen The Sound of Music? I realise, of course, that there are now plenty of adults who never lived in a time when you didn't get to choose your televisual entertainment. Edit: actually, I realise that this is because of some weirdness in the percentages, rather than reflecting the proportion of people who've seen the film.

My (negative) opinion of the Academy was solidified many years ago, when they selected "Annie Hall" instead of "Star Wars" as the winner. They've rarely given me reason to reconsider that opinion.

I may have seen a couple more of the early ones but can't being them to mind enough to be sure. Think I clicked over 3/4 of them though.

I'd like to see the numbers rearranged by most to least seen.....

Yes, I think I'll do that tomorrow; I am already astonished by the number of responses this is getting.

I like the fact that the only thing outranking Casablanca is LotR. :)

I just remembered that I have in fact seen Gladiator. That I'd forgotten tells you all you need to know about the experience.

I've seen more of the early ones than the later ones.

The ones I have seen are either released in the past twenty years, or musicals. Surprised more people didn't see Slumdog Millionaire, I thought it was quite widely seen - more comparable to The King's Speech than, say, The Departed.

I seem to have watched far more musicals that I expected. I put this down to mother, who insists on watching them repeatedly (I detest them as a theatrical form). An interesting follow up would be 'and how many of these have you enjoyed'.

I'm not sure if I saw all of All Quiet or not, as we watched it at school in History class; I only watched Oliver! because I was in a youth theatre performance of it.

I'm amused that I basically get to the year I went to university, and it turns into a line of solid ticks (with a couple of exceptions). I've clearly not been good at going back and watching the classics.

Yep, i have solid ticks from 1993-2003 for the 6 years I was a student and then after that, I've seen 3 of which the Artist is the only one I saw at the cinema.

I've seen four of those movies for sure. Another two are "possibles" from BBC TV weekend evening screenings in days of yore.

Has anyone here seen fewer than me?

abigailb also claims to have seen only six. I don;t think anyone else is in less than double figures.

I have seen a film called Crash. The Oscars would have been much more interesting if Cronenberg's version of the Ballard story of that name had won for best picture.

Well, that Crash was a much better movie than the one that won. Still, I suppose Brad Pitt had to be in a nominated film at least once before he turned 40 or something.
