The answer to the question about the Green Man is no. That article is of extremely debateable historicity in terms of its sources.

Indeed - unless you can update me further, doesn't it date to the high middle ages and no earlier?

There's a very early carved example in a church at St Hilaire-le-Grand in France, dating to the early 5th century, but it's significance is unknown: as a symbol, it's found widely in Europe and there is no good evidence to suggest it had any particular significance for the Anglo-Saxons. But most of the examples are 12th c. and later -- this, to be fair, is down to the fact that very few churches of earlier date survive in Northern Europe.

Puerto Rico offers another point of interest - if they are accepted as a state, they will be 29th in terms of population (3.7 million). Hispanics tend to vote Democrat, and were already increasing in number. So, President Clinton, presumably, next?
