Writing McCain

One of the great things about Wikipedia is that it can be a sort of informal translation and transliteration service. I've been spending some happy if slightly pointless time looking at the ways in which different languages write John McCain's name, taken from the sidebar of his Wikipedia entry. Collapse )

Because Obama's name is much more easy to spell in any language, the transliteration questions are not as interesting (assuming you found them at all interesting in the first place). It is striking that while there are 66 Wikipedia articles on McCain there are 91 on Obama. This inevitably means a few new alphabets:
