Actually, there *is* a good scientific reason to not use cellphones on planes - but it has nothing to do with aviation safety.

It's because of the way telecom cells work - used from a plane, several cells will pick up the same phone, and it really fucks up the signal system. So that rule is really more to protect the signal quailty of the cell system, but nobody remembers that now!
