I'm just amused that Mr. Priest thinks Mark Billingham's work is laddish. My grandmother would disagree.

Did you follow any of the afternoon party we had on Twitter. We even have an 'internet puppy' tee-shirt now
Look for cstross or scalzi. Juliet had a few crisp remarks to contribute as well

Whatever the other qualities of this essay, Priest gets it right in this description:
Stross writes like an internet puppy
This captures my own opinion about Stross's style in a phrase that's much more amusing and incisive than anything I could have written. (I think this kind of thing is really Priest's métier: The Book on the Edge of Forever is his masterpiece.)

Have just finished Embassytown and must agree, the characterization is so absent as to make it read like a documentary. Great world-building, interesting ideas, but evoked as much emotion as a statistics manual.
