While I'm asking difficult questions...

...I could never get the missing line.

Yes, I know what the canonical version is, but I don't really believe it. What should it have been?

(And I never understood why it was always listed as "Boss Cat" in the BBC TV schedules, but that would be an ecumenical matter.)
Top Cat!
The most effectual
Top Cat!
Whose intellectual
Close friends get to call him TC...
[dah dah dah dah diddle de dee]
Top Cat!
The indisputable
Leader of the gang!
He's the boss!
He's a VIP!
He's the championship!
He's the most tip top -
Top Cat!

Top Cat was a brand of cat food and it was said that the name was changed toavoid the BBC's problems with advertising

Either that or worries about trade mark problems with the cat food company.

Agree with you on who's/whose, although both parses work.

Gosh, I hadn't considered that 'intellectual' might qualify Top Cat rather than his friends. Now that you mention it, it does make better sense!

This. *ducks*

I always used to think it was "Pro-vi-ding it's wetting the T." Which makes a little less sense.

Take a look at what happens to the waiter and the lid of the lunchbox at 0.37 - 0.38 on the clip -- something that I never noticed (having seen those credits since childhood many many times) until a blogging animation aficianado pointed it out.
