Nice piece; though the attribution of hip and knee replacements to France is a bit odd - John Charnley in the UK pioneered the modern hip prosthesis, which fed across to knee prostheses.

(Sounds a bit 'pointy', I know, but my PhD was on hip replacements so I had to comment)

National Public Radio's All Things Considered did a series of stories about healthcare in various foreign nations last fall (I remember catching the installments about France, Switzerland, and maybe one other), and they were pretty fascinating for a Yank like me.
