April Books 20) Catch-22, by Joseph Heller

I loved this book when I first read it twenty years ago and I enjoyed the return journey now. The fractured narrative of Yossarian's response to the dehumanising horror of war is also very funny in places (my favourite scene is the mass outbreak of moaning at the Avignon briefing). Awful and yet hilarious.

One of my favourite parts is the chapter on Major Major Major Major where the process of buying eggs at 7 cents, selling them at 5 cents and making a profit is explained. (The 7 and 5 may be wrong, but the relative magnitudes are correct.)

Yes, that's right - 7 and 5.

Thank you, belatedly, for the Belgium book, by the way. It arrived safely.

I'm glad my memory is working. I must have read Catch 22 about 1973.

Glad to hear the book arrived. I hope you enjoy it.
