A few things

Welcome to me old friend blacksearoamer, who is dissatisfied with Orhan Pamuk's Snow (which I have not read).

Andrew Rilstone on the media on Archbishop Williams on the Three Kings.

Cory Doctorow on writing in the age of online distractions.

Has anyone else noticed the subtle differences with Lexulous? Like the board is a different shape and you get eight letters in your tray instead of seven?

The scoring is also different - we haven't figured out yet whether this has affected games that were already started. (T=2, for instance.)

Snow
That review is my take on it exactly. I had high hopes, but finishing that book was really hard, unrewarding work.

I agree with blacksearoamer about 'Snow'. I read anything, but I just couldn't finish it. My reasons for disliking the book probably say more about me than about Pamuk's skills as a writer, but the picture it paints of modern day Turkish Islamic thinking made me hope the Turkey is never allowed in the EU. The narrow-minded, anti-women, psychological violence against women.... well you get the picture. Please excuse me while I go and wash the froth off my chin.

Lexulous is throwing me off a little, yeah, because I've gotten so used to Scrabble scoring. It's kind of neat that you still get a bingo-type bonus for 7-letter words, though.
