1 is a hook or club. Not sure about 2 or 3, but I presume a similar connection.

That's it. And I would never ever have got it.

That was my immediate assumption. Though I didn't recognise the second, and was a little bemused by the fork as fifth element in the third sequence.

I'd need to go do actual research to find the next in each sequence.

1) would be a hook or possibly a nail (it's the meaning of the Hebrew "ו", the five previous being those of ד,ג,ב,א and ה

2) would be the same in Norse futhark, with the next being the "R" meaning "journey".

3) would be the H in Celtic ogham, known as "uath" and meaning "fear".

1) I thought Phoenician, and therefore the ox.

I read Clive King's The 22 Letters when I was young, so I remember Alex the Ox and Beth the House.

I recognise two of them as alphabets. One looks like the orginal Phoencian one and the third is probably Ogham, but I'm too sore to Google to find the next symbols.

Wrong! I get the first -- meaning I can answer correctly -- but I don't get the others. I know what they are, but I don't know what comes first in each.

Avoiding looking at other comments, the first is the phoenician or maybe hebrew or maybe greek alphabet, so the six one is like wow, a hook, and the third one is the tree alphabet from Graves or similar, so the sixth one is, um, hawthorn? (But, a fork? Ash?) Dunno what the second one is. Where's my White Goddess got to, I wonder...

I think they're the first letters of several different alphabets.

They're the meanings/pictographic origins of the letters of several alphabets, but not sure which (I don't think any of them are hieroglyph).

Like everyone else, I'm guessing alphabets! As soon as I saw the first item on the first list, I guessed this was where it was going, and wiser minds than mine have probably nailed them, so I'm not going to bother doing the necessary searching to get the exact answers...

I sort of recognized the first because of the word Bet but the answer could have been revealed to be three series from the I Ching and it would have been equally plausible from here.

I guessed alphabets when I saw the third, and see I'm probably right from comments.
