Smith and Jones
It was good.


Lots of references back to the very first episode, "Rose".

Lots of references forward to "Mr Saxon".

Good to have a "brainy" companion. (check: Zoe; Liz Shaw; maybe Romana; er, that's it, unless you count Adric or Grace.)

Saturday nights are now sacrosanct.

Quite a few refs to New Earth too - hospital setting etc.

Didn't think of Grace; did think very much of Liz (A: verrrrry hawwwwwt indeed, B: very bright, C: not intimidated by the Doctor).

It was, as you say, GOOD. And what I like is that we expect it to be good, and it delivers. So far we've had 27 episodes and two Christmas specials, and only one of them's been a certifiable clunker (Love And Monsters). That's a pretty good success rate, and better than all but the best of the Pertwee and Baker (T) years.

I think Evelyn Smythe (from the Colin Baker audios - a big improvement on his time at the TV helm) also falls into that category.

And Bernice Summerfield!

I liked Evelyn, the idea of the Doctor being accompanied by a lady of advanced years was a nice twist on the usual companion relationship and Maggie Stables played her with a lot of depth and subtlety. It's just a pity I couldn't - and still mostly can't - stick Colin Baker ;)

And he *mentioned Rose*. After "School Reunion" made it *very clear* that he didn't typically mention his past companions. SNIIIIF!

I need a Who icon. I'm a convert. :)

It has all the ingredients for a good season. Good choice of companion so far, and just as with School Reunion he's got an addictive formula for kids - imagine how many people are goin to be menaced with straws in the upcoming weeks.
